Quilt Stories The students read about the illustrator, Jerry Pinkney. As a young boy, he liked to draw pictures and wanted to become an artist. His parents encouraged his talent, and Jerry Pinkney realized his dream. He is now an artist for many children's books.
Next, the story, The Patchwork Quilt, which Jerry Pinkney illustrated, was read. It is about a grandmother who sews a quilt using fabric from family members' clothing. The quilt becomes a story about the family.
Finally, the students drew pictures of what they wanted to be when they grow up. The pictures were ironed onto material and then sewn into a quilt.The stories and quilt pictures are here for you to enjoy. Click on the student's name to see their picture and story.
